Bill Henry "Willie" Toledo, 92, passed into the arms of our creator May 5, 2016 in Grants, NM. He is survived by his daughter Sharon Webb (Donn); Grandsons, Derrick Toledo, Michael Toledo (Sarina); Great Granddaughter, Alexis Mae Toledo; Great Grandsons, Xavier Michael Toledo and Jaden Damon Toledo; Sisters, Lavesita Toledo, Dora Rockwell, Dorothy Castillo (James Sr), Carol Clark, Irene Toledo (Tommy), Barbara Antone, Ruby Montoya; Brothers, John Pino (Mae), Preston Toledo, Phillip Montoya and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Toledo was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Mae Jose Toledo; his son, Darrell William "Billy" Toledo; his daughter, Corrina Toledo; and his parents, Domingo and Glee Bah and Jeffrey and Mary; and several siblings. Born and raised in Torreon, NM, he joined the Marines with two cousins and two friends and served a vital role as a Navajo Code Talker during World War II. He was assigned a body guard when he was mistaken for an enemy soldier and he was present for the famous flag raising on Iwo Jima. When he returned home he finished High School and then attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS. Willie met Louise in high school, they married after the war and lived in Kansas where she was a nurse while he worked as an auto mechanic. They moved back to New Mexico where they lived the remainder of their lives. He was active in the Navajo Code Talkers Association and enjoyed traveling and speaking and answering questions about the experiences of the Navajo Code Talkers. Friends may visit Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Services will follow at 6:30 p.m. Interment with honors will take place on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
