Beverly Washburn, 89, was called to his eternal resting place on November 18, 2015. He was born to Henry and Lottie Washburn on April 12, 1926 in Raton, NM. He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Barbara and Steve Hanson, Linda and Joe Delatorre, and Debra and Kennedy Clark. Beverly is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and his caring angel, Patricia Coull and her husband, Alex.
He served in the army during World War II, becoming a 1st Sergeant at the age of 19. Bev returned to earn his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico, and went on to complete his master's degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. His graduate studies focused on power generation and distribution.
He had a distinguished career, including positions at Ramo-Wooldridge Inc., Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories. Accomplishments that he was especially proud of included developing telemetry communication systems for rockets and missiles, designing a pioneering digital computer program to engineer the section of I-40 from Nine Mile Hill west of Albuquerque to the Arizona state line. He also started a laser program at LANL, and served on the President's Commission that investigated the accident at Three Mile Island.
Services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015, 2:00 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, 87107.
