Beverly Ruth (Summers) Ohms

Beverly Ruth Summers Ohms, 74, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 following complications from a fall and subsequent surgeries. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, cousin, aunt, teacher, friend and acquaintance of many. Beverly was an accomplished organist, pianist, hand bell ringer, and choir member. Her teaching career covered a half century of service to Albuquerque Public Schools.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Dr. Harry V. Summers, Jr. and Ila Hope Summers. “Bev” is survived by her husband, David Ohms; daughter, Jennifer Jablonski and husband, Joey; brother, Harry Victor “Bud” Summers and wife, Jenifer of Carlsbad, CA and their family; sister, Marcia Summers and husband, Murray VanDyke of Santa Fe, NM and their family; brother, David Summers; and sister, Lisbeth Sivert and her family, all of Albuquerque.

Beverly was born in Fremont, OH on July 18, 1944. After stops in Oklahoma City and Okemah, OK, her family settled in Albuquerque in January of 1950. Beverly was educated in Albuquerque Public Schools and graduated from Sandia High School in 1962. She received her undergraduate degree from of The University of New Mexico in 1966 and embarked on her teaching career with APS. She taught at Hoover Middle School for 29 years and was a substitute teacher for 12 years and an educational assistant for seven years at Sandia High School. Beverly was an elder and a deacon at La Mesa Presbyterian Church. She and David are currently members of Sandia Presbyterian Church.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018, 4:00 p.m., at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122. A short reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Youth Music and Music Programs at Sandia Presbyterian Church. Bev was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
