Betty Shaffer, age 96, was born in Three Sands, Oklahoma on May 9, 1925 to Phinis Hubert and Virginia Lovell Simmons Gamble. She died on Sunday, May 9, 2021 on Mother's Day and on her 96th birthday. She was living at the Palmilla Assisted Living Community in Albuquerque, NM.
She married Charles Lee (Chuck) Spence, Jr. in Odessa, TX on April 25, 1943 at the First United Methodist Church as a part of the Easter Sunrise service. She is survived by her two sons, Reverend Doctor Charles Lee Spence, III and wife, Deborah Mikulich Spence of Albuquerque, NM, and Gaylen Eugene Spence and his wife, Debra Burchett Spence. She had six grandchildren, Andrea L., Andrew L., Charles Lee (Chad), Bradley E., and Tamra Jo, Kari A. She had four great-grandchildren, Raegan, Floyd, Jr., Tyler, and Aidan. Her surviving sibling is Bobby L. Gamble and his wife, Jolene Terrel l. Gamble of Hobbs, NM.
Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Adel (Tootsie) Gamble Miller., her first husband, Charles L. (Chuck) Spence, her second husband, A.L. Murrah, and her third husband, Reverend Irvin E. Shaffer.
Her ashes will be buried at a later time.
A celebration of life is to be held at the First United Methodist Church in Hobbs, New Mexico on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
