Betty Jean Waller

d. June 13, 2019

Betty Jean Waller, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019.

Betty was born November 20, 1925 in Fort Worth, Texas to George and Ida Mae Stewart.  Betty was raised in Fort Worth during the Great Depression. Betty has a sister, Mary Lou and a brother, Edward.  She attended North Side High and graduated high school amid World War II. Betty was raised in a strong Christian household.  Her Christian faith and the experiences of the Depression were the basis for her strong and loving character.  In 1945 Betty began dating Jack Waller, a former classmate from North Side High who served in the Marines.  They married in November 1945 and celebrated 74 years of marriage.

Jack and Betty had three children, John, Pamela and David.  They moved to Groves Texas in 1959 and lived there until Hurricane Carla destroyed their home in 1961.  At that point they moved to Albuquerque where they raised their family and where they remained until Betty’s passing.  Betty loved Albuquerque and cherished the life they made together in New Mexico.  Betty was a homemaker who devoted her life to raising her children.  After her children were grown Betty worked as a secretary at Public Service Company of New Mexico.  Betty loved her job and worked there until retirement.  Betty was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church for 42 years.  Jack and Betty enjoyed a long and happy retirement.  They enjoyed traveling and went all over the country in their trailer.

Betty is survived by her husband, Jack Waller; son, John Waller of Austin, Texas; daughter, Pamela Waller of Austin ,Texas; and son, David Waller who resides in Albuquerque.  Betty has four grandchildren, Jessica Slockett, Michelle Ruland, Christopher Waller and Mark Waller.  Betty also has six great grandchildren.  Betty’s family was the most important thing in her life.  She always put her children first.  Nothing gave Betty more pleasure than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Poor health made the last few years challenging for Betty, but her Christian faith and strong, loving spirit continued to define her until her passing.  While her family misses Betty greatly, the family draws strength from faith, knowing that her spirit is with the Lord.

Services for Betty will be held Friday, June 21,  2019, 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas.  Betty will be buried at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
