Betty Alice Stanford, age 81, resident of Albuquerque and native of Texas, passed away peacefully just before 9 pm on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice.
She is survived by her children, Jon Stanford and wife Meghan, Jena Siedler and husband Jim; grandchildren, Riley Stanford, Max Siedler, Kate Stanford, Mari Siedler, and Sawyer Stanford; nieces and nephews, Gary Lovelace, David Lovelace, Dorinda Myatt, Travis Tadlock, Elaine White, Carolyn Saul, Pat Stanford, Wendy Pierce, Jay Stanford, and Gary Stanford; and many other family and friends including her beloved dog, Mindy.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul; her parents, Frank and Edith Lovelace; and her brother, Joe Lovelace.
She was born in Lubbock, TX, graduated from Abernathy High School, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Texas Tech University and her Master’s Degree from UNM. Betty was a lifelong educator, having devoted over 40 years to teaching for APS. She believed touching the lives of children was a true calling, to which she remained committed throughout her life. When she wasn't teaching, Betty could be found tending her garden, enjoying a good book, or spending time with friends and family. Betty and Paul were avid fans of Lobo basketball and were season ticket holders for almost 60 years. Her greatest devotion was to family, and she selflessly gave her time and energy to the ones she loved most, especially her children and grandchildren.
As news of her passing has spread, the comment most often shared has been "She was the kindest person I ever met". Services will be Thursday, April 19, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at St Johns United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's honor to The Paul & Betty Stanford Scholarship Endowment, Texas Tech Foundation Inc, P.O.
