Betty Jean Skipper went home to Jesus on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the age of 81.
Betty was born to Bill and Jean Eberle on Wednesday April 26, 1939 in Gary, Indiana. Betty graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oberlin College, and a PhD in Statistics from Iowa State University.
Betty married her husband, John Skipper on June 8, 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they raised their two children, David Skipper, of Houston, Texas, and Elizabeth Park, of La Crescenta, California.
As one of the first female faculty members of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Betty was a trailblazer in her profession. At UNM Betty was a professor of biostatistics for 48 years. She retired from UNM in 2019.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Betty also loved to cross stitch and watch the Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God.
Betty joins her husband, John Skipper and parents, Bill and Jean Eberle in Heaven. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David and Sheri Skipper; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jacob Park; grandchildren, John and Evan Park, and Sadie and Colt Skipper; as well as brother, Bill Eberle of Huntsville, Alabama.
A Memorial Service honoring her life will be held Friday, April 16, 2021, 10:00 a.m., at Ridgecrest Christian Church, 5300 Eastern Ave. SE. A reception with light refreshments will follow the service.
