Betty Ruth Harrison

Betty Ruth Harrison (Goss) of  Albuquerque, New Mexico, left this world on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. Betty was born Tuesday, September 10, 1946 to Willard C. Goss and Ruthie Mae Bowen in Stockton, California. She was a loving mother to her children, Elisa (Schleicher) Buteau and Jeffery Schleicher.  She later opened her home to foster children who became family.

In her lifetime she was a hair stylist extraordinaire, achieved multiple college degrees and, prior to retiring, was a social worker. Her greatest joy, though, was her family. Whether given, friended or fostered, she loved them with all she had, and they loved her back. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, “part of the family” children, partner and friends always knew that they held a special place in her heart.

Betty was one of those rare beautiful souls that never once judged another human being for their circumstances, misgivings or quirks.  She always had open arms and understanding for everyone around, even complete strangers. She did what was true to her, lived by her own rules and would do all she could to make sure you could live your truth as well.

Betty is survived by many friends and family including daughters, Elisa (John) and Dezeree; grandchildren, Mariel (Tomas), Austin (Sylene), Culton and Rachel; partner, Geoff Watts; nieces, Bernadette and Christina (and families); and her fur-children, Peanut and Beefcake.

Betty had a youthful spirit and lived a colorful life.  For those who knew her, it seems way too short.  Betty is no longer with us, but we know that she's spreading her sparkle to everyone else on the other side.

As Betty would wish, a light filled celebration of her life will take place Sunday, April 14, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at Elena Gallegos open space Kiwanis picnic area.  Please bring your hearts and memories with you.
