Betty Kay Baudendistel, a talented artist and master china painter who created works of art throughout her lifetime, passed away on November 16, 2018 in hospice care at The Retreat in Rio Rancho at the age of 85. The cause was due to complications from Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Cletus (Abe) Baudendistel; her children, Catherine Donnelly, David Baudendistel and Mark Baudendistel; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Betty Kay was born in the lovely mountain town of La Veta, Colorado. She moved to Denver as a teenager, where she met her husband, Abe. After their wedding in Denver, she moved where ever Abe’s job with Raytheon took them. From coast to coast several times and back to New Mexico, Betty always set-up a loving home for her family. She was dedicated to her husband’s career and her children’s interests. It wasn’t until after her children graduated from college and left home that she took up the game of golf. With more than an “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” attitude, she accepted the challenge and became a very good golfer. She loved to travel, and together with Abe, they enjoyed touring the United States, Canada, and made several trips to Europe. She especially loved small ship cruises as a way to enjoy different cultures and cuisines. As common with Alzheimer’s and other dementia diseases, Betty’s struggle with the illness changed her life, and that of her family's as they cared for her at home. Her final residency was at the Retreat in Rio Rancho, where she received care for over 3 years. Her family wants to acknowledge and thank Lena and all the dedicated staff members of the Retreat for their gracious and heartfelt care. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 9502 4th St, NW, Albuquerque. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, December 7, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at the Paradise Hills Golf Course, 10035 Country Club Ln NW, Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, www.alzfdn.org/ for medical advancements and the search for a cure for the disease.
