Age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2015. Bessie was born in Peristasis, Thrace, Greece on January 1, 1919. She was a resident of Albuquerque since 1947. Mrs. Frangos was preceded in death by her husband, James Frangos and son, Harris Frangos. She is survived by her brother, Ioannis Triantafyllidis and wife, Fotini of Lemnos, Greece; daughter, Helen Dountas and husband, Bill; son, William and wife, Adele; daughters, Florence Gabel, Armida Stevens, Athena Pasley and husband, Pete and son, Nick Frangos and wife, Mary Lou; grandchildren, Christa Frangos, James Dountas, Andrea Dountas Konidas, Demetra Frangos, Adam Frangos and Vanessa Frangos Simmons; great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Nicolia Dountas, Quinn and Eleni Frangos. She is also survived by many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. As a Greek immigrant, Bessie was a trail blazer for others coming to America welcoming them into her home and helping them adapt to their new culture and environment. Many knew her as a business owner, having bar and restaurant establishments up and down Central Avenue. As a steward to her faith, she generously gave of her time volunteering and serving the Daughters of Penelope, Parish Council and Philoptochos. Bessie was an advocate of learning and pushed herself, children, and grandchildren to pursue their educational goals. A Trisagion service will be offered on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 308 High St. SE. Interment to follow at Fairview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Memorial Fund.
