Bertha Vera Lujan passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 surrounded by her family at home. She was born to Ambrosita and Victor Mares in Raton, NM on September 8, 1918.
She is survived by her children, Lillian Gallegos, Alex Lujan Jr. (Irma), Judith White, Betty Baca (Robert), and Louise Sandoval (Lee); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Lujan; and grandson, Alex Lujan III.
She worked as a bookkeeper in retail for many companies. Bertha was active in her church Queen of Heaven and volunteered for 18 years at the Palo Duro Senior Center Gift Shop. She received two awards from Mayor Chavez and Mayor Berry.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at FRENCH - University, with the Rosary to immediately follow. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 7, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5311 Phoenix Avenue NE. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
