Bernice May Wulfkuhle

May 30, 1925 — September 17, 2018

Bernice Wulfkuhle, 93, beloved mother and wife, was called to her eternal resting place on September 17, 2018. She passed away peacefully at La Vida Llena in Albuquerque, NM. She entered this world on May 30, 1925 in Topeka, KS, born to David and Mabel Ammon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, George Wulfkuhle; and her granddaughter, Brandy Streit. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Streit and spouse, Edward Streit of Rio Rancho, NM; son, Kenneth Wulfkuhle and spouse, Jill Wulfkuhle of Belle Vernon, PA; and her grandchildren, Jonathan Streit and spouse, Randy Shine of San Francisco, CA, Bradley Wulfkuhle and partner, Tara Sparacino of Pittsburgh, PA, and Andrew Wulfkuhle and spouse, Katherine Wulfkuhle of Lancaster, PA.

George and Bernice met in Topeka, KS and married in Providence, RI during the height of WWII. George volunteered for military duty and served on submarines in the Pacific theater. Bernice was adventurous. She followed George to submarine school. In the spirit of Rosie the Riveter she took a job as a submarine welder.

After the war, George and "Bernie" moved to Pittsburgh, PA. By now they had two children. Although a homemaker, Bernie was the first to try water skiing. She taught the rest of the family to water ski. In retirement, Bernie and George traveled to at least 40 states in their RV. Their favorite trip was a three month excursion to Alaska from Kansas. They enjoyed Alaska so much that they took two subsequent cruises there. Later they retired to Paradise Village in Phoenix, AZ where Bernie excelled in lawn bowling. She won many championships. Their final relocation in 2005 was to Albuquerque, NM to be closer to their daughter.

Matthew 5:4
“Blessed are those who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.”

A Memorial Service will take place at La Vida Llena Chapel at a future date. Bernie will be enniched at Santa Fe National Cemetery with George.
