Bernard Howard Hansen went home to be with his heavenly father on June 21, 2016 at the age of 88. Bernard was born February 13, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Hans Jacob Hansen and Bertha Sagberg. He was the third of four brothers; Harry, Kenneth, Bernard and Arthur. He married Marion Freitag on September 3, 1950 and was blessed with three sons, Michael David, Gary Thomas, and Thomas Allen. Bernard served in the US Army in the early 1950s. Bernard was a resident of NM since 1964, when he was hired by Los Alamos Laboratories as an electrical designer. Immediately following, his family relocated to Los Alamos as well. He worked first at "S-site", and then at the Meson Facility near Los Alamos.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Bertha; his brothers, Harry and Kenneth; his son, Gary, and the mother of his sons, Marion. Celebrating his life are his sons, Michael and his wife Karen, Albuquerque, NM and Thomas and his wife Shelley, Las Cruces, NM. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kyle Weber (Jennifer) of Aurora, CO, Brittani Hansen, Cortni Montgomery (Kyle), and Danielle Steigerwalt (Karl), all of Las Cruces, NM; and his great-grandchildren, Jason Weber, Kateari Weber, Levi Hansen, Noah Montgomery, Evagelean Montgomery, Trevor Steigerwalt, and Keaton Montgomery. Bernard is also survived by his brother, Arthur and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bernard's memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 10,000 Spain NE in Albuquerque, NM. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Fellowship Hall at Faith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernard's name to the National Diabetes Association, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, or to a charity of your choice.
