Bennie N. Vasquez, age 89, passed away on February 28, 2013. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marie A. Vasquez, both from Chacon, NM and long-time residents of Bernalillo, NM. He leaves behind three children, Margaret Nelson and her children, Eric Nelson and Leslie Smith; Bennie P. Vasquez and wife Mary along with their children, Daniel and Veronica Vasquez; and LeRoy D. Vasquez and wife Sylvia along with children Helen, Paige and LeRoy II. He also leaves behind seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father and eight siblings. Bennie served proudly with the US Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was presented with a commemorative badge to honor those who fought in the Battle of Normandy from Congresswoman Heather Wilson. He is a retired member of the teamsters union and a long-time member of the American Legion Post #69. Bennie and Marie are longtime members of Second Presbyterian Church. Services are as follows: Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at French - University. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd. NE. Burial will be held at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gabriel Torrez, Moses Martinez, Jose Domingo Vasquez, David Romero, Eric Nelson, and Mario Vasquez Honorary Pallbearers are Albert Gonzales and Roy Cruz. The Vasquez Family would like to give a special thanks to Reverends Jaime Quinones, Rob Woodruff, and Josie Rinaldi. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Second Presbyterian Church.
