Benjamin Haynie

June 22, 1942 — January 31, 2021

Benjamin K. Haynie entered eternal rest the early morning of January 31, 2021- 4 days after a mechanical fall broke his right shoulder. Our father was able to be surrounded by his son, daughter, and 2 youngest grandchildren in the days before his passing.

Ben was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, coworker, neighbor, and confidant. He was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter Christine Haynie, his loving wife Dolores Haynie of 53 years of marriage, both of his parents Herman and Gertrude Haynie, and 3 older siblings Betty Martin, Bob Haynie, and Bill Haynie. He is survived by his two adult children Monica Haynie and Keith Haynie, Keith's wife Emily, and 5 grandchildren Alicia Garcia-Haynie, Bohren "Bo" Haynie, Etta Haynie, Rowan Haynie, and Max Benjamin Haynie.

Ben was originally from Walnut Grove, Missouri. As a born and raised self-proclaimed farm boy, he joined the Air Force during the Vietnam era campaign and was ultimately stationed at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR). It is during his tenure there that he met his wife Dolores in Alamogordo, NM on a blind date. Ben learned his trade in the USAF and retired from WSMR after over 35 years of civil service. Ben loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and sitting on his enclosed patio during retirement. He was naturally curious and gifted in all things mechanical and electrical, and was always working on the family vehicles, electronics, yard and house. He was an absolute perfectionist and found great pride in everything he worked on and everyone he worked with. He had a quiet, dry, funny wit that if you were paying attention would keep you in stitches.

Our father was an amazing man of quiet strength and resilience and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He did not want much "hoo-hah" with regards to his afterlife care and requested cremation and to be buried under a tree with a nice view.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers or other gifts to just remember Ben the next time you're sitting on a patio on a warm day, sharing a good meal, or sitting by a still lake waiting for the fish to bite.
