BENITO "BENNIE" SALAZARBennie died on September 26, 2012 to join in death his beloved wife Adalecia, brothers Raymond, Alex and Emilio; granddaughter Amy and grandson Bret. He leaves behind his two sons and their wives, Ben and Miriam from Phoenix; Zeke and Barbara from Tucson; and daughter and son-in-law Nina and Dick Chapman from Albuquerque, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bennie was born on August 27, 1921 in Tularosa, New Mexico to Alejandro and Juanita. He and Adelecia married just before he left to serve in the Army during World War II. He was blessed to return from the war and begin his career at White Sands Missile Range. He considered Las Cruces his home until he moved to Albuquerque to seek greater care for his wife. Bennie lovingly cared for her until her death from Alzheimer complications in 2006. In Las Cruces, Bennie always loved to share his yearly pecan crop and the many vegetables and chili from his garden. His home was a gathering place for all the family to share special occasions. We hope that Dad will continue to find his Laughlin, Las Vegas or Sandia "Let It Ride" tables to keep his keen mind challenged. His passing will be a void in the hearts for those who knew him. Special thanks to those family and friends who helped him during his final fight with Leukemia. Pauline Casanovolus and BJ McMullin-thanks for the special friendships you shared with Bennie since he moved to Albuquerque. A big "Thank You" goes to Judith Sandoval and Celina Anaya from Home Care Assistance, who helped him live independently and die with dignity. A Rosary will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 11:15 a.m. Pallbearers will be Dick Chapman, Charlie Salazar, BJ McMullin, Pete Garcia, Sammy Rodriguez, Michael Salazar and Jerry Rogers.
