Honorable Judge Bennie Lovato, born on June 22, 1934, a life-long resident of Algodones, was called home to our Lord on July 24, 2022. Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, Casimiro and Florencia Lovato; grandsons, Jonathan Trujillo, and Eric Debroisse; siblings, Pedro, Mandy, Tony, Vicky, Juanita, Irene, Jessie, Casimiro and Frances. He is survived by his wife, Lorella, of sixty-six years, his brother Gabe Marquez; children, Geraldine Martinez (Paul), Bernadette Debroisse (Raymond), Bennie Lovato (Lori), and Tina Trujillo (Danny); grandchildren, Andrea Martinez (Ryan), Jessica Valencia (Eric), AJ Martinez (Darlene), Aaron Martinez, Bennie Lovato, Ashley Trujillo, Gabrielle Lovato; and great grandchildren, Ethan, Adrianna, Logan, Aria, Sophia, Braelyn, Brooklyn, Kaylee, Zayden and another to be welcomed in December.
Bennie graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in 1953. He moved to California after graduation, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. Later, he would attend barber school. Bennie returned to marry his high school sweetheart, Lorella, in 1955. Together they lived in California for five years, but Algodones was calling, so they returned in 1960. Bennie was elected Sandoval County Magistrate Judge and held the position for 20 years. Prior to being a judge, he owned and operated B&L barbershop. Algodones was very dear to Bennie, it's where he was raised, and he raised his family. He had a deep- rooted appreciation for the land.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30am, with mass to follow on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Parish in Bernalillo. Interment will be at Algodones Community Cemetery immediately after mass.
Pallbearers are AJ Martinez, Aaron Martinez, Bennie Lovato, Chris Miera, Carlos Marquez, Anthony Marquez. Honorary Pallbearers are Ethan Riley, Logan Valencia, and Zayden Yamada.
