Beatrice "Betty" D. Segura
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Beatrice "Betty" D. Segura. Betty closed her eyes and was carried away peacefully to be with the Lord with all five of her sons and her loving husband, David encircling her while she took her last breaths on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
It seems like just yesterday's beautiful spring afternoon when in Washington Junior High I saw you for the first time. It seems like just yesterday when I carried your books and held your hand, walking you to the bus stop. I had never been so happy as being next to you, as I have been for so many years since that first day. Like a lifelong summer, you have always been the fragrance of my life. In our love, distance never existed. May God bless you for completing my life.
Betty lived beautifully for 90 yrs. Born in Belen, NM; she was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. She and David both graduated from ABQ High School and married soon thereafter. They remained married for 72 yrs. Betty retired from the DOD as a Purchasing Agent after working for the government for over 20 years. Betty and David are lifelong Catholics and were members of Risen Savior Catholic Church and St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Church.
When Betty passed, she was lovingly greeted at the gates of heaven by our Lord Jesus Christ and her parents, Sosimo Padilla Sr., and Felicita Padilla; stepmother, Antonia Chavez Padilla; her in-laws, Victor Segura, and Maria Colunia Segura-Metzgar; her brother, Sosimo Padilla Jr.; sisters, Anna Rivera, and Sally Sanchez; and baby brother, Anthony Padilla. Betty was the last remaining sibling.
Betty was a member of the Catholic Daughters for many years until her health would not allow her to participate. Betty was a fighter, she survived two rounds of cancer and several heart attacks. The doctors placed a pacemaker in her after one of her heart attacks and her family lovingly called her, the Energizer Bunny.
Betty loved her five sons and was a mother to Victor, Anthony, Raymond, Arthur, and Steve. Betty was fortunate and blessed and loved every one of her family members. She was never blessed with daughters, but she was fortunate to have many nieces, including Maxine, Donna, Janet and Barbara, and her sister, Sally's daughters whom she loved as her own. She was devoted to her home, always welcoming, loving, and feeding all who entered it. Her thoughtfulness and generosity had no bounds.
She is survived by her husband, David; sons, Victor, Anthony and wife Mayra, Raymond and wife Peggy, Arthur, and Steve and wife Roxanne; stepsister, Martha Avilla, and husband Leroy; grandchildren, David, Laura, Christopher, Angela, Michael, Gregory, Andrew, Kimberly, Katie, Jennifer, Stephen, Justin, and Amber, and 18 great-grandchildren (almost 19 with one on the way), and three great-great-grandchildren.
