Beatrice Andazola McSweeney, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 4, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat McSweeney; her daughter, Kathy-Jo; brothers, Frank, Ismael (Smiley), and Seferino and her sisters, Elena, Tila, Julia and Lupe. She is survived by her brother, Simon Andazola, her sister, Mary McDaniel, and many nieces and nephews. Raised in Dawson, a beloved town in the mountains of Northern New Mexico, she never missed the Dawson picnics, staying in touch with friends and sharing memories. Receiving her training at the Regina School of Nursing, Beatrice lived a career of service. She served as a nurse at the former St. Joseph Hospital and at various military hospitals. Her memorable experience was a tour in Russia with a team of nurses. As a private nurse, her life was filled with memories. She had the privilege of serving as a private nurse for Jacqueline Cochran, the renowned solo aviation pilot. Beatrice loved to sing her beloved Spanish songs - the heritage of her Mexican culture. She was instrumental in maintaining a close connection with relatives who live in Mexico, always organizing family reunions. She was the heart of the family, making sure everyone knew when a member of the family was ill and in need of prayers. The family is grateful for the excellent care she received while in residence at the Rio Rancho Nursing and Rehab Center. With their welcoming spirit, their love and care, Beatrice thrived. She loved introducing her family to all the staff. Services will be held Monday, August 10, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic church, 1502 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. Viewing will take place at 9:30 a.m., Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE.
