Beato A. Carusone

Beato (Matt) A. Carusone was born March 30, 1927 in Boston, MA to Enrico and Marguerite (Sorrintino) Carusone. He passed away while on a visit to Carrollton, TX at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Nancy Carusone, on September 25, 2012, at age 85. He was known to most friends and family as Matt. He graduated Boston Trade High School in 1945 and joined the U.S. Marines for four years, serving with the 1st and 2nd Marine Divisions in China and Japan and discharged in 1949. Matt also served two years in the U.S. Marine Reserve from 1949 to 1951 and was reactivated for another year with the 2nd Marine Division from March, 1951 to March, 1952. He attended Franklin Technical Institute in Boston and graduated from there in 1951. He married Frances T. Short on September 3, 1951 and they had six children. They lived in Jamaica Plain, Lowell, and Burlington, MA until moving to Albuquerque, NM in 1973. Matt was employed for 32 years as a civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force; 20 years at L.G. Hanscomb Field in Bedford, MA and 12 years at Kirtland A.F.B. after his job was transferred to New Mexico in 1973. At Kirtland A.F.B., he was a civilian worker with the 1550th Field Maintenance Squadron. Matt was a member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus councils in Burlington, MA and was a 3rd degree member of the John F. Kennedy council in Albuquerque. He was a charter member of Burlington Lodge 2223 O.S.I.A. in Massachusetts, a former member of the O.S.I.A. Ben Abruzzo Lodge #2488 in Rio Rancho, and a charter member of Albuquerque Lodge #2565 Order Sons of Italy In America where he served three years as Trustee, was elected President of the lodge in 1988, and served nine consecutive terms in that office. He retired in 1985 from Civil Service and in 1988 became maintenance person for Sangre De Cristo Catholic Community until September, 2000. He set up and hosted the Ben Baran Bible study group with his wife, Frances, until he no longer worked at Sangre de Cristo. Matt was dearly loved by his wife, Frances; and children, Matthew and wife Meridy of Shirley, MA, Fran of Rio Rancho, NM, Guy and wife Nancy of Carrollton, TX, Henry and wife Michele of Rio Rancho, NM, and John and wife Christianne of E. Lebanon, ME. He was also very loved and will be missed by his grandchildren, Michelle Carusone of New Hampshire, Cristina Carusone (Fitzsimmons) of Littleton, MA, Raymond Boynton of Wyoming, Jennifer and Jillian Scott of Wyoming, Dylan Imus of Nebraska, Chani Carusone (Kaibetoney) of Edgewood, NM, Camille Carusone (Lawson) of Albuquerque, NM, Anthony and Avery Carusone of E. Lebanon, ME, Adam Barnes of Carrollton, TX; and by his great-grandchildren, Marina Jean and Harrison Giza of New Hampshire and Ryan Hopkins of Massachusetts, and great-grandson, Johnathan Carusone of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. Matt was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John, Guy, Henry, and Joseph, and sisters, Bridgette, Mary, Helen and Margaret; daughter, Pegi (Margaret) Imus; and granddaughters, Heather Boynton and Miranda Barnes. Rosary will be recited Sunday, September 30, 2012, 3:00 p.m., at French - Wyoming Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 1, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
