Barton Darrow was born 94 years ago to Earl B. and May Darrow in Colorado.
He moved to Albuquerque in 1929. He attended Fourth Ward Elementary, Washington Junior High, Albuquerque High, and is a graduate of NMSU. While attending AHS he achieved All-State Honors in both football and basketball and was a member of the AHS Athletic Alumni Hall of Fame. He also played college football. He graduated from Infantry School in Ft. Benning, GA and served as a platoon commander in the 99th Infantry before transferring to the Army Air Corps for pilot training, serving as a pilot instructor during WWII. In 1946 he rejoined the family business, Darrow Ice Cream Co. The business was later sold to Creamland Dairies and he entered the real estate and insurance business operating as Bart Darrow Realty until retirement in 1995. Bart served on numerous Business Boards, Community Boards and enjoyed volunteer service. He was known as an intensely loyal family man and respected businessman. He enjoyed traveling extensively to fly fish, hunt and golf.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ann Warner Darrow originally from Waco. He is survived by Dorothy Crist; his daughters, Sally Cayzer and Suzann Farren; son, Allen Darrow and his wife Lynette; grandchildren, Mollie O'Brien, Drew Darrow, Megan Ramirez, and Elizabeth Farren; and six great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016, 2:00 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, 87102. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to First Presbyterian Church at the above address. The family was blessed to have him as their mentor and guide.
