Barney Urbano Sedillo, beloved brother, son, uncle, and musical savant passed away on January 12, 2024 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 76. He was born on October 28, 1947, in Albuquerque to Gillie and Barbara Sedillo. Barney's formative years were spent in Grants, NM.
Barney's love for his family knew no bounds. He was a devoted brother to his siblings Edwina, Daniel, Lucy, Becky, Gilbert and Zeke. Their bond remained unbreakable throughout the years and Barney cherished every moment spent with them. The many memories they created together will be treasured and shared forever.
Music was Barney's passion, and he pursued it diligently throughout his life. From Grants High School Band Drum Major to UNM music major he entertained and delighted friends, family and strangers alike with musical renditions from piano, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, cornet, flute, guitar and organ. Barney was a kind man with a gentle nature and endearing sense of humor. He enriched the lives of all those privileged enough to meet him. His joy was evident to all by his robust laughter and infectious ear to ear smile. He loved food, music, and traveling throughout the country. Most of all he loved his family and held a special place in his heart for his parents.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents, Gillie and Barbara Sedillo, brothers Gilbert and Zeke Sedillo, brother-in-law Fernie Martinez and nephew Anthony Sedillo. He is survived by his brother Daniel Sedillo (Rosemarie), sisters Edwina Martinez, Lucy Stalee, Becky Larkin (David), aunt Jennie Gurule and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
This world is less for the passing of Barney Urbano Sedillo, and yet, more for the profound difference he made in all those he met. His loving spirit, unwavering devotion to family and passion for music will forever live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His second family at the South Valley Care Center and those who diligently and compassionately cared for Barney have our eternal gratitude. Barney will be missed. He will be loved.
