Barbara Louise Weaver (née Taylor), surrounded by her loving family, went to be with her Lord and Savior July 24, 2021, at the age of 97. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 17, 1924, and was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, James Freeman Weaver; her parents, Edgar Leland Taylor and Harriet Isora Taylor (née Brown); her sister, Inazoe Taylor; her eldest son, James Michael Weaver; adopted daughter, Amanda Gaye Taylor Weaver; and grandson, Jonathan Paul Clair.
At the age of 16, she began working for Western Union and then worked as a Teletype Operator for the Red Cross. When WWII began, Barbara joined the Nurses Cadet Corp. Over her lifetime, she attended the University of New Mexico and worked for the Southern Baptist Convention, ADT Protection Service, and Paradise Christian School. Barbara touched many lives through teaching Sunday School for over 60 years, elementary school for 17 years, and also homeschooled many others. Barbara wrote poetry, countless Sunday school lessons, life journals, and her life's story. She performed clowning and puppeteering as a way of witnessing the gospel to children, and in her later years fulfilled her lifelong dream of a mission trip to Thailand.
Barbara is survived by her children, Constance (Rev. Kenneth) Clair, Dr. Douglas (Scheryl) Weaver, Ramona (Fred) Lopez, and daughter-in-law Teresa Weaver; her grandchildren, James Weaver, Amy (Rick) Thornton, John (Jessica) Weaver, Moriah (Jesse) Flores, Timothy (Theresa) Clair, Catherine (Ted) Gilbert, Eric (Jen) Weaver, Curtis (April) Weaver, David (Felicia) Henderson, Amber (Eli) Kenton, and Anthony Henderson (Samantha Crooker); 31 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. We know for certain Barbara lived her life for the Lord. Heaven rejoiced in welcoming her home, and now the Lord has her in His embrace.
We may miss your body here on earth but know that you were made whole and healthy and dancing at the feet of Jesus in Heaven. We love you and you will forever be in our hearts. "'I will give you back your health and heal your wounds," says the Lord." -Jeremiah 30:17.
A visitation for Barbara will be held on Friday, July 30 at Alameda Baptist Church at 6pm. Services will be held Saturday, July 31 at Alameda Baptist Church at 12pm. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
