Barbara Lucille Matkin Williams includes her maiden name given at birth on February 19, 1931, and her married name starting in 1954 when she wed a young and handsome airman named John Thomas Williams.
Born in Liberal, Kansas during those Dust Bowl days, she soon learned to watch the sky. Later, growing up in Amarillo, Texas this habit helped in her love of painting. And paint she did. Her ledger records the many oil and watercolor paintings she created for friends and paying patrons. She also had the joy of teaching art to the 5th and 6th graders of Emerson Elementary School in Amarillo. Later after moving to Albuquerque, she taught small art classes in her home for adults and children.
Barbara's greatest joy was her family. Not only was she and John blessed with four lovely children, Bonnie Lucille Hammond, John Kendall Williams, Rebecca Lorine Friedberg and husband Donald, David Williams, and wife Cheryl. Their blessings continue with four grandchildren Caitlin Ellis and husband Michael, Matthew and Laura Friedberg, and Samantha Williams, as well as great grandson Steele Ellis. Barbara is also survived by her brother, Dr. John Edward Matkin.
There will be a memorial service on Monday Aug. 29th, 11:00am at Central United Methodist Church. She certainly believed in eternal life, so she hopes to see all of you again.
