Barbara Thomason

August 1, 1951 — February 1, 2024

Albuquerque

The world was blessed when Barbara L. Thomason was born on August 1, 1952 in Los Alamos. She passed away on February 1, 2024 after an almost three year courageous battle with cancer, knowing full well that her condition was incurable. During that battle she remained optimistic and held fast to her religious beliefs.

Barbara was the oldest daughterof William L. Baird and Modene H. Baird of Graham, TX.

Barbara graduated from Los Alamos HS in 1969. She subsequently completed her Bachelor's Degree at Tarleton State University, and completed some graduate study at UNC Chapel Hill.

Barbara was a Social Worker, a profession she loved. She was employed at federal, state, local, and private agencies in TX and NC. Her work touched many lives.

In addition to her lifelong interest in helping others, Barbara enjoyed her horses. She also enjoyed all animals (mostly abused, strays, or re-homed with us), music from the sixties and seventies, trying new restaurants (accompanied by her dubious husband), movies, and travel. During the course of her marriage Barbara served as the "supervising adult" in our family.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of forty-eight years, John A. "Buck" Thomason, Ph.D., their daughter, Katie Thomason-Baird of North Richlands Hills, TX, sister Judy and her husband Randall Brown of Ft. Worth, TX, brother-in-law Rodger Perry of Albuquerque, NM, and nieces and nephews. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters-in-law Sara Jane Perry and Laura Stajduhar, and at least fifty dogs, cats, and horses she rescued and kept, giving them all good lives and unlimited love until they passed.

Barbara requested in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Humane Society, Pet Rescues, or a similar non-profit organization of your choice.

A memorial service will be held March 7, 2024 at 10:30 am at French's Funeral Home on Lomas above Eubank. A brief reception will follow.
