Barbara Eileen Ferrel Swortwood

SWORTWOOD, BARBARA EILEEN FERREL Barbara was born on Nov. 24, 1955. She grew up on Fourth Ave. in Garwood, N.J. where she spent her youth as a very happy "Jersey Girl". After graduating from David Brearley Regional H.S. in 1972, Barbara worked for a branch of the Dept. of Defense until her first marriage to William Lounsbury, a Lt. Colonel in the Armed Forces. She lived in Denmark, helped to raise 2 step-children, Robin and Kenneth, worked as a Consular Assistant at the American Embassy in Copenhagen and visited most of Europe during this time. After her marriage to William Swortwood, Barbara lived in N.M. for over 25 years. She worked as an educational assistant in the Albuquerque Public Schools, a tutor, Avon representative and COO of Welwood International, a production company owned jointly with her husband. However, her favorite job was being a mother to their daughter, Stephanie who was the light of her life. Barbara was a sweet and gentle person who loved animals and children. She was also a creative ceramic artist and painter. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harley Theodore and Frances Ruth Ferrel, aunts, Margaret Carman, Doris Jane Power, and Peggy Salerno and cousin, Alan Ferrel. She is survived by daughter, Stephanie Eileen Swortwood; sister, Linda Kubinski; brother, Donald Ferrel; nieces, Jennifer Stull and Elizabeth D'Aloisio; and nephews, Dennis Ferrel, Jeffery Kubinski and Matthew Kubinski. She has 7 great nieces and nephews. A celebration of Barbara's life will take place at Wednesday, August 7, 2013, 5:30 p.m., at Bandelier Elementary School, 3309 Pershing Ave. SE. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established for Barbara's daughter, Stephanie. The account is called the "Stephanie Swortwood Support Fund" at Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union. Donations may be made by stopping into the bank or calling the bank at 293-0500.
