Barbara Jo Ostby, 79, of Albuquerque, New Mexico died Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Barbara Jo Ostby, daughter of Herman and Emma Huck, was born on January 24, 1939 in Melvin, Iowa. She graduated from Melvin High School in 1957. Barbara was united in marriage with Robert Dean Ostby of Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 10, 1959. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD and later moved to Wall Lake. Barbara was a homemaker and also worked many years for Western Bank. Bob and Barb were active members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, planting a healing garden for the congregation to use. They enjoyed family time, camping, cheering on the Sioux Falls Swim Team, supporting their children’s academic and extracurricular activities and interests. She and her best friend, Margaret Mathison owned a small business selling plants in the spring and hand-crafted items for home décor.
Barb and Bob relocated to Albuquerque NM, where she was an active member of Cross of Hope Lutheran Church. She started the garden club, made bouquets, and did calligraphy for various church celebrations. It blessed Barb to be able to serve the Lord with her gifts and talents. Grateful for having shared her life are her three children; Nancy Jensen of Pedro Bay, AK; Neal Ostby of Elberta, MI and Nancy Starr; Natalie McNichol of Albuquerque, NM and her husband David. Barbara’s four grandchildren were a source of love and joy. They are Elijah Jensen, Aidan, Julia & Holly Jo McNichol. Also, her dear sister, Mavis Johnson, of Hartley, Iowa who shared her love of gardening and family. She also leaves behind her faithful sister in service, Ruth Hinkel as well as many cherished nephews and nieces. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ostby, her mother and father, Herman and Emma Huck, and her sisters, Peggy Pyle, Betty Raveling, Mary Ann Petersen, and Elaine Huck.
A service for Barbara will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Cross of Hope Lutheran Church, 6104 Taylor Ranch Rd NW. Donations can be made on behalf of Barbara to the Cross of Hope Lutheran Church Garden Club, 6104 Taylor Ranch Rd NW.
