Barbara Decker

DECKER, BARBARA JOBarbara Jo Decker, 74, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 after her battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, Gene Decker; her children, Lucinda and David Shelton, and Lin and Jackie Decker; her grandchildren, Deona and Colin Foust, Courtney and Roy Yates, Aleasha Decker, and Jason Decker; her great-grandchildren Shelton, Liam, Rowen, and Sadie Jo Foust and Taylin and Shylie Yates. She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was a member of Penn Street/Mountainside Church of Christ for 54 years. Many people have been taught in her Bible class, and most recently Cradle Roll. She served as an elder's wife for many years; opening her home, encouraging members, and writing birthday and anniversary cards for every member of the congregation. Barbara served tirelessly at Sandia Youth Camp and Ponderosa Christian Camp, affecting the lives of everyone involved with camp. She retired from food services at Albuquerque Public Schools, where she worked for 27 years. Among some of her famous foods were cinnamon rolls, ice cream cake roll, Christmas tree cookies, homemade noodles, and numerous other dishes. She also enjoyed hand quilting, gardening, hummingbirds, Christmas, the color turquoise and travelling with Gene in their camper. Perhaps her most loving and meaningful hobby was taking care of the babies at church. A special thanks to UNMH Cancer Center, VistaCare Hospice and Comfort Keepers for their service. Visitation will be Sunday, August 26th from 2-4pm at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. Services will be held August 27th, 2012 at 11:00am at Mountainside Church of Christ at 12300 Indian School Rd. NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens at 2:30pm, 9500 San Pedro NE.
