Barbara "Joyce" Beck

Barbara "Joyce" Beck, 82, passed from this life and entered into her Heavenly home on April 19, 2015. Born in San Francisco, CA on July 6, 1932 to Robert and Edith Michler, Joyce spent much of her youth growing up with family in California and Kansas. She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, KS in June of 1953, and soon after became certified as a Registered Nurse. She was most fond of her years as a Pediatric Nurse in the Albuquerque area. Later in life she became an accomplished artist, enjoyed crewing and volunteering her time in the local ballooning community, tended to her beloved turtles, and cherished time spent with her close friends and Bible study groups. Above all she dearly loved her family and friends, and faithfully served her Lord. Joyce is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim Beck; son, Mike Beck and wife, Julie; daughter, Tami Gerrard and husband, Paul; Grandchildren Grant Gerrard and wife, Karissa, Cody Gerrard and wife, Courtney, Allyson Beck, Kyle Beck, and Ryan Beck and wife, Brittany and her daughter, Rilynn; Great-Grandaughters, Gianna Gerrard, Evelyn Gerrard, and Kaycee Beck, all of whom she adored and was affectionately known to as "Big G"; step sister, Judy Will and husband, Paul; Cousin, Becky Barnes and husband, Mike; and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thank you to all the Doctors, Caregivers and Pastoral Staff who so lovingly cared for Joyce during the past few months, and to her neighbors and prayer partners whom she loved and were always there to encourage her and give her strength. A Celebration of Life and reception will take place at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd. NE, on Saturday, April 25, 2015, 2:30 p.m., with interment to take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Joyce had requested "balloons of all colors." Contributions in her memory may be made to the "Joyce Beck Memorial Fund" at Faith Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or Shriner's Hospital.
