Audie Elaine (Gilmore) Keene

Audie Elaine Keene was born on November 6, 1936, in Fort Necessity, Louisiana, the youngest daughter of James and Florence Gilmore.  She passed peacefully on August 29, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 + years, Culby Keene. She is survived by her three children Steve, Terry and his wife Anna, and Lori and her husband Anthony Aguilar, her grandchildren, Jason and wife Lacey, Brandon and wife Shayna, Robert and wife Julie, Richard, and Shannon and her great grandchildren, Cole, Garrett, Brooke, James, Joseph, Riley and Evelyn.  She loved her family, was very proud of each of them and left an everlasting mark of love and caring on everyone she met.   Her son-in-law Anthony, was her loving caregiver for the last several years.

She moved to Albuquerque in 1958, from Lubbock, Texas with her husband Culby to start and new life.  She was full-time mother for much of the time her children were growing up.  She was avidly involved in all aspects of her children’s lives and was always active in school and extracurricular activities related to her children and grand-children.  She worked through-out her life as an office administrator and eventually retired from Papercraft in Albuquerque.

Not the most outgoing or vocal about her feelings, she nevertheless felt deeply, said the hard thing when it needed to be said, kept her tongue when it didn’t and above all she demonstrated to all of her children the meaning of the love and the way to care for family.  The light and smile that she could bring to a room is gone, but the light that she shared with everyone she met will be forever in our hearts.  She will be missed, but her legacy lives on in each of her family through love and caring.  We choose to celebrate her passing through a vibrant life full of love, laughter and devotion.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made on Audie’s behalf to the Heart Hospital of Albuquerque.  She and her family were treated so well by the staff, nurses, doctors and administrators of that hospital.  The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to them.

A celebration of Audie’s life will be held at noon on Tuesday, September 7th at FRENCH-Wyoming, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. All who knew and were touched by Audie are invited to attend.
