Atilano "Chats", "Marty" B. Martinez

Atilano "Chats", "Marty" Martinez, age 78, passed away April 28, 2019 at home holding the hand of his beloved wife of 58 years, Maria Luz, and surrounded by his loved ones.  He was born July 17, 1940 in Parkview, New Mexico.

After a long fierce battle with heart and lung disease his struggle ended Sunday, April 28.  As with every challenge he faced, he fought with courage and strength.

He was married 58 years to Maria Luz, they had five children. Louis Martinez, AnnaMaria Martinez- Murdoch, Laura Webb (Doug), JoAnn Luera (John), Richard Martinez.  He had six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, that he loved unconditionally, as well as several nieces and nephews.

We honor the man we were blessed to call Dad and Papa.  He could talk for hours about people, politics and city history.  His wit and charm were like no other.  His storytelling captivated us. Spending time reading the paper at the kitchen table with Papa was always the best way to spend a Sunday.  We didn't want to be anywhere else but there.

A person's time on this planet can often be understood by the net of love they cast out in their lifetime. His net extended to his own internal circle of family, as the years went by the net reached further to the employees of Kurt's Camera Corral, some so young, looking for mentors to show them the way, and he did.  His friends at the dog park, all of his grandkids and great-grandkids.  We all needed Papa and he never denied his support and love.  A life well spent.  A life well lived.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with a Reception to follow at FRENCH – Wyoming.
