Arthur Bruce Cochrane, age 63, gained his wings on June 17, 2021 after a 30 month battle with Glioblastoma.
Born in Harvey, Illinois, his family moved here with the Air Force in 1959. He attended Del Norte High School graduating 1975. Bruce was first and foremost a man of honor and decency ---honest to a fault, loving, fair, funny, calm and steady. He spent most of his adult life in service to others. He had a lifelong dream of being a police officer and began his career in Amarillo, Texas. He returned to Albuquerque as soon as he was 21 to joined the Albuquerque Police Department where he proudly serviced his community until he retired in 2000. While on APD he had the opportunity to serve as a patrolman, in the aviation unit, bicycle patrol, horse patrol, and gang unit but by far his favorite memories were of his time on the Motorcycle unit.
After retirement, he dabbled in several occupations until he was hired by the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico where he worked for 11 years until he decided it was time to retire. He loved animals dearly especially all of his puppies, his fur-children. Bruce was an avid fisherman, hiker, and runner. He met his wife, Glory, when he entered a running race. They were married 3 years later and have been together 31 years. During his retirement Bruce volunteered for the Albuquerque Open Space Division as a Trail Watch Volunteer and a Garden Volunteer at the Open Space Visitor’s Center. He found peace and solace at the Visitor’s center even after his initial diagnosis. Most of all, Bruce was a truly a nice guy with a sense of honor and compassion. Even nearing the end of his life, he never lost his sense of humor.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents James Arthur and Dorothy Cochrane. He is survived by his wife Glory Cochrane, sisters Janet Engh, Diane Kaiser (Glenn), Nancy Cochrane (Tim); nephews Ronnie Suknot, Aaron Engh, Denny “Mo” McClain, Ryan McClain and niece Katrina Spillman. He is also survived by his beloved fur children Lulu and Gaven. Thank you to all the health care providers who treated Bruce from the physicians and staff of the New Mexico Cancer Center, Presbyterian Hospice and our outstanding home health aides Julie Rose and Ruben Reyes. A special thanks to Jeffrey Miller, MD his personal physician and friend who went over and above to help Bruce both physically and spiritually. Dr. Miller you are in every sense a healer.
There will be a private memorial service for the family. A celebration of Bruce’s life for family and friends will be held sometime in the fall, his favorite time of year. In lieu of flowers, Bruce would like donations made to Albuquerque Open Space Alliance or Animal Humane of New Mexico.
