Arthur "Art" Reeves, age 85, born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 with his wife by his side. He was born May 1, 1929 to George and Ada Reeves. Art is survived by his wife, Joan, of 56 years; his five children, Phil Reeves and wife, Beth, of Albuquerque, Don Reeves of Phoenix, AZ, Christine Hethcock and Dan Miller of Denver, CO, David Reeves and wife, Wendy, of Albuquerque, and Martin Reeves and wife, Tracy, of Trujillo, Peru; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, whom he loved and enjoyed dearly. Art was preceded in death by his son, Steven Kitch; his brother, G.J., and his sister, Mary. Art enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, and belonged to the Friendship Force of New Mexico, which gave him the privilege of making new friends world-wide. His travels took him all over the world, visiting all seven continents. Art was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ who loved his church and family. As a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church, he was very involved with his friends in the "Partnership Class," which was originally called the "Young Marrieds' Class." Art was extremely active all his life as an avid tennis player and skier. He was a founding member of the Tennis Club of Albuquerque, played tennis competitively, winning many medals in the National and World Senior Games, and served on the Sandia Peak ski patrol. He skied and played tennis with his many friends at the Tennis Club, even in the last year of his life. As a child, Art sang with the French's Boys Choir and his love of singing continued all his life. He was a generous man who devoted much time to many organizations including Meals on Wheels, Civitan, and his church. Following many years of employment with the telephone company, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his first business, the Menaul Aquatic Club, which he and his family owned and operated for 16 years. Art was involved in owning numerous other business enterprises such as Tom Young's Health Spa, Reeves Pipe and Supply and many apartment projects and mobile home parks. Services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd., NE. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
