Arthur "Art" Hazard of Bernalillo, NM was called home to the Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the VA Hospice Hospital in New Mexico surrounded by his wife, and loving family. Arthur was born in Newport, RI to Roswell Benjamin Hazard and Helen Bell Mackey on April 6, 1942. Arthur Hazard was an amazing musician for over 65 years and played the baritone saxophone from the age of 12 until he went on hospice at home last year. Arthur loved playing his horn "Aggie" and could be seen at The Range Cafe in Bernalillo playing his big baritone sax with some of his closest friends and bandmates in their house band "The DeRangers" every Thursday night for the last 10 years. Art was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Arthur was a longtime member of Sagebrush Church in Albuquerque and enjoyed serving in different ministries.
Art is survived by his beloved wife Dolores "Dolly" Hazard of New Mexico, his oldest daughter Halona (Thomas) Woodson of North Carolina, his son Brock Hazard of Rhode Island, and his youngest daughter Amber (Chris) Calderon of New Mexico, and brother-in-law Ellices (Adele) Rices of Louisiana, and sister Paula (John) Banks of Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren Brianna, Odina, Jordan, Justeena, Brock Jr., and Brendon, as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Art was preceded in death by his father, Roswell Benjamin Hazard; mother, Helen Bell Mackey; Sister, Violet Johnson, and brother's, Roland and Benjamin Hazard, sister Adele Rices, and grandson Canaan Arthur Calderon.
Funeral Service for Arthur Hazard, 81 will be held at French Funeral Home, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW Albuquerque, NM, 87114, Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Burial Service immediately following at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Rhode Island Rhythm & Blues Preservation Society (RI RBPS), an organization that helps provide instruments to school students who can't afford to buy musical instruments that schools are unable provide. Art loved teaching young students how to play the saxophone and this would be something that will be done in honor of his musical legacy.
