Arthur E. Brennan, age 67, passed away on Thursday. October 19th, 2017, in his home in Albuquerque, NM, while surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Janet; their two children, Kate and Nicholas; five grandchildren; his father, James; brother, Jim; and sister, Dianne Purcell. Arthur is preceded in death by his mother, Nell; brother, Robert; and his daughter, Kristen.
Born in Manchester, New Hampshire and raised in an Army family, Arthur also served in the United States Army. He retired as a Sargent First Class after nearly 20 years of service in a career that included time as a Combat Engineer and a Computer Programmer. His military career took him to two tours in the Vietnam War, and allowed his family the opportunity to live in many international locations, including Kaiserslautern, Germany and Verona, Italy. His military assignments took him twice to Albuquerque, NM, where he made his retirement home.
Arthur loved Albuquerque and the southwestern style, so much so that he and Janet made it a central focus in the Casa de Snapdragon Publishing Company, which they founded in 2006. As Managing Editor, he loved spending time perfecting the formatting of the books they published, which were submitted by authors from around the world.
Much is unknown about the details of his various military assignments – but his civilian clothes and full beard betrayed the knowledge that he was in the military throughout most of his career. His experience allowed him to continue his career post military as a government contractor.
His family shared his wonderful humor, and in difficult times, it was common to hear inappropriate jokes breaking the otherwise uncomfortable silence. Arthur always kept things lighthearted and fun, despite the seriousness of his terminal cancer. He was courageous and hopeful until the end, and refused to let cancer beat him.
Arthur was truly a selfless and giving man. The love he shared with his family and friends, and the joy and happiness he exuded showed what a zest for life he maintained throughout his entire existence.
A Committal Service will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2017, 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his honor.
