Antonia Lucinda (Lucy) Calderon

June 13, 1912 — October 16, 2013

Age 101, a lifelong resident of the Albuquerque area, passed away October 16, 2013. She is survived by her four children, Tony Calderon, Bill Calderon, Julia Calderon of Albuquerque and Linda Martin and husband, Garth of Sacramento, California; six grandchildren, Sabrina Calderon, Michael Calderon, Marc Calderon, Angela Zermeno, Damian Calderon, and Melanie Calderon: 16 great grandchildren and numerous cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio; her parents, Federico and Julianita Gutierrez; and 7 brothers and sisters. Lucy was born in Corrales, New Mexico on June 13, 1912, the same year that New Mexico became a state. In 1936, she married Antonio Calderon who was born in Spain and shared a loving marriage with him for 43 years. She was a beautiful, intelligent, caring and strong willed woman who loved her family deeply. She had a grace and style about her that charmed everyone who met her. She maintained her beauty, outgoing personality and strength until her last days and she was an inspiration to her family throughout her entire life. On her 100th birthday, Lucy received recognitions from Governor Susana Martinez and from President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama who noted that she had witnessed great milestones in our Nation's history and that her life represents an important part of the American story. She was truly a remarkable woman who will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 3424 Fourth St. N.W. in Albuquerque with Father Vincent Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 1900 Edith N.E. in Albuquerque. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucy's memory can be made to the Presbyterian Healthcare Services /Hospice Program online at www/phs.org. or checks can be sent to Presbyterian Hospice Program, P.O. Box 26666, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87125-6666.
