TIANO, ANTHONY TONY
Age 71, a local producer of National television shows, will be remembered during a memorial service on Friday. Tiano died on Sunday, August 12, 2012 of complications from Myelofibrosis. Tiano spent over 40 years running Public Television stations, or producing programs for them. He started at KNME while he was attending UNM. He then went to Madison, WI as the Program Manager for their PBS affiliate. In 1976, he moved on to St. Louis where he was the President of the PBS station KETC, and to the same position at KQED in San Francisco from 1978 to 1993. Tiano then founded Santa Fe Productions where he continued producing public television shows until his death. Shows such as the Brain Fitness series showed his passion for science. The shows also raised over $50 million for Public Broadcasting. Reflecting his love of the arts and his native New Mexico, he produced Landscapes of Enchantment for national distribution in 2010, a show featuring several of New Mexico's best landscape artists. Tiano also produced Open Book for 7 years for AandE - interviewing a host of authors representing many genres. One of Tiano's favorite projects was the show he did with the famed UCLA basketball coach John Wooden who wrote The Pyramid of Success.
