Anthony (Tony), age 68, passed away on February 28, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico after suffering complications from lymphoma.
Tony was born in Wheeling, Illinois on July 9, 1956, son of the late Robert Schroeder and Cathy Byron and brother of the late Teresa Schroeder and Lisa Saiz. He worked 16 years in the Chicago area as a clerk for the Soo Line and BNSF railroads in addition to contractors with the railroad system. Tony then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in the late 1990s and worked for the bakery department at Smith's and other food stores.
He loved playing chess since his high school days. While living in Chicago, he received the title National Master from US Chess Federation in 1988. Since living in New Mexico, he's been recognized as the New Mexico senior state chess champ.
He also loved to play backgammon, play Santa Claus during the Christmas season, draw cartoon characters, dreamed of being a mountain man and especially loved to see people smile.
Tony is survived by seven siblings and their spouses. They are, Steve (Kay) Schroeder of Albuquerque, NM, Paul (Jean) Schroeder of Bolingbrook, IL, Monica Voorhees of Prescott Valley, AZ, Donna (Danny) Randall of Albuquerque, NM, Jim (Pat) Schroeder of Carson City, NV, Nanette (Bill) Koepnick of Prescott, AZ and Carol (Mike) McClatchey of Campbell, CA.
