Anthony Eugene Romero

Anthony Eugene Romero, Lt., Navy (Ret.), age 67, passed away January 17, 2019. Anthony was born in Santa Fe, NM in 1951 to Antonio and Connie Romero. He attended St. Pius X High School, the University of New Mexico, and then Colorado State University to pursue a graduate degree in Public Health. Upon graduation, he worked in Washington, D.C. at the United States Public Health Service. Anthony was a passionate photographer, traveler, and collector in his early years. He loved the outdoors often hiking, skiing and fishing. Anthony was most proud of his loving niece, Alyssa, who recently joined the Navy in the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program, following in his footsteps in the Navy and medical field. As his physical challenges became more progressive, Anthony never complained, but trusted his loving family and doctors for the best care and advice. The family would like to thank the Raymond G. Murphy Veteran’s Hospital for their constant trouble shooting and support to increase Anthony’s comfort throughout his life. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Carl Brown, Dr. Jose Molina, and their staff of caring nurses for their compassionate and optimistic care during Anthony’s time at the VA.

Anthony was preceded in death by his loving parents, Antonio and Connie Romero. He is survived by his sisters, Terri Burgess and her husband, Ron of Las Cruces, NM, Sandra Ortega and her husband, David of Albuquerque; his brother, Steven Romero of San Antonio, TX; and his special niece, Alyssa Ortega, currently residing in Washington, D.C.

A private graveside service with full military honors will take place at a future date at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
