Anthony Raymond Carrieri

Master Sergeant Anthony R. Carrieri, United States Marine Corps, age 87, of Bronx, New York, died peacefully in his Albuquerque home Tuesday, August 18, 2020.

Anthony, known to friends and family as Tony, was born on November 20, 1932, to Michael and Elizabeth Wianiewska. He joined the Marine Corps on January 26, 1951, and was honorably discharge on January 14, 1954. He served as an infantry man and a unit supply clerk and was assigned to the First Marine Division (Reinforced), First Combat Unit. During his time in the Marine Corps he was presented the following awards, medals, and certificates, the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, and USMC Rifle Sharpshooter.

After Anthony separated from the military he lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, and worked at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. Blackjack and watching the NFL were his favorite pasttimes. He spent his remaining years in Albuquerque, NM. He was known for his love of Italian food, especially pizza, as well as oriental cuisines. He enjoyed story-telling and sharing everything he knew with others. Anthony was everybody’s friend and was always willing to lend a hand or an ear.

Tony is survived by his nephew, Michael Carrieri III and family, James, Dolores, and Jonathan Chance, Matthew and Rachel Chance and children, and Michelle and Derrick Harris and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Elizabeth Carrieri; brother, Michael Carrieri Jr.; and Gregory Chance. His final resting place will be in Dubuque, Iowa, alongside his best friend, Socks. Anthony and his family would like to extend their gratitude to Kerin Buttry for her kindness, time, energy, and compassion in the continued care for Anthony.
