Anne Lounsberry (Davenport) Steinhardt

May 19, 1928 — December 11, 2019

Anne Davenport (Sandy) Steinhardt, age 91, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019, in Albuquerque. She was born Saturday, May 19, 1928, in Holyoke, MA, the third daughter of Russell Lounsberry and Sarah Brewster Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary Brewster Davenport and Eleanor Davenport Grant; her husband, Laszlo Steinhardt; and her daughter, Lisa Steinhardt Pess. Sandy is survived by her nieces, Sarah Grant Reid, Georgia Grant Williams, and Margery Grant Nichelason and their families, including numerous nieces, grand nieces and nephews.

She was a linguist and a true “word” person. She was Production Copy Editor of The American Heritage Dictionary and spoke French and Japanese. Sandy was a voracious reader and a gifted pianist who, at one time, commuted between Boston and New York City to study piano. She especially loved classical music – and musicians – she married a concert violinist!!! She also loved the special cats and dogs who became part of her family over the years – especially her last dog, Max, named after her beloved friend Max Isenbergh. She had a great (and sometimes wicked:):)!! sense of humor and always appreciated a good joke. She was also a talented seamstress who enjoyed creating her own patterns and choosing fabrics to make beautiful outfits. Sandy enjoyed living in New York City and, later on, Marlborough Street in Boston before moving to Albuquerque to be closer to family. She spent her last years living at La Vida Llena, where she had many friends and received excellent and loving care from the staff.

Sandy will be dearly missed but never forgotten by her family and all who loved her.
