Ann C. Lucero

Ann C. Lucero, devoted Catholic widow, went home to her beloved Jesus after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gabriel (Gabe) who worked for the U.S. Post Office; and her son, David who was a writer and school teacher.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Sotelo and Lucia Chaves; her brothers, Sotelo Chaves, Jr., Romolo, Frank and Charlie Nuanes; and sisters, Frances, Flora, Anita and Fela Chaves. She is survived by nieces, Lucille Nuanes, husband, John Waskiewicz and children, Tamara, Brian, and Diana Smith, Joan Nuanes and Dennis Schneider, Gloria Nuanes and son, Richard and wife, Desiree and children, Andrew, Richard and Vincent, Esther and Mavel Armijo, Barbara Tafoya and children, Anna Marie Carroll and husband, Paul and family, and Michael Tafoya and family; Julianita Eicher, husband, Larry and family, Julia Navarro and family, Dorothy Nuanes; nephews, Charles and Peter Nuanes and family; and her closest friend, Rose Mendoza.

Ann graduated from Albuquerque High School and trained at the Western School for Private Secretaries. She attended classes at UNM. She graduated from the Institute of Children’s Literature of Reddig Ridge, Connecticut in 1980. Ann worked for almost 20 years for UNM, Civil Service, and the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce as well as volunteering with her church and ministering with the St. Joseph Prayer Center.

The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, 7:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH – University. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. She requested donations be made to the Newman Center at UNM. Her spiritual work, her family and friends fulfilled her life.
