Our beloved mother, Anita Yvonne Gurule’, a long-time resident of the Albuquerque area, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018.

Mom was born May 8, 1949 in Juarez, Chihuahua, to Carl and Rosario Bates.  Mom had an incredible strength and faith in God.   She was truly the matriarch of our family.  She instilled strength, compassion and humility in all of us.  Her family always came first and as a result we have become who we are today.  She was selfless and gracious with everyone who came across her path.  Mom was very proud of her family and always said “family will always be there for you.”  Her passions in life included her grandkids, cooking, gardening and helping others. She loved socializing and meeting new people. Mom had a big heart and embraced life to its fullest and made everyone feel truly welcomed and accepted. She will truly be missed and always remembered and loved.

Anita was a business woman, who furthered her education at UNM. She is survived by her children, Shirley Bencomo, Lynne Gurule’, Monica Gurule’ and Carlos Gurule’; her son-in-law, Ivan Bencomo; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Silva; all her grandchildren, Ivan, Diandra and Sierra Bencomo, Senida and Carla Gurule’, Aaron, Victoria and Christany Silva, Ariana and Adryan Gurule’ and Anthony Lopez; her siblings, Shirley Lovato, Rosa Gradaville, Dora Loera, Omar Bates and Danny Bates; and life-long friend, Shirley Lujan.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Tony Bates.

Visitation is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at St. Edwin Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona RD. SW, with the Rosary following at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at St. Edwin Catholic Church, followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
