Angelina Melendrez Stapleton, age 95, passed away peacefully Friday, November 24, 2017 in Albuquerque with loved ones by her side. She was born on April 27, 1922 to Carlos and Emeteria Melendrez in Silver City, NM and married Hubert Stapleton, who served in the US Army and Air Force in 1951 in Albuquerque. They traveled the world together and raised five children. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1967; and daughter, Sylvia Wicka in 2014; along with brothers, Charles and Gilbert Melendrez; and sisters, Mary Trujillo and Helen Ogas. She is survived by her sister, Cecelia Marrufo and her husband, Henry; her sons, John (Eileen), Jack (Diane), Andrew (Donna) and Arnold (Kate); and grandson, Garry (Jen); along with 14 other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Paul, Collin, Billy (Jessica), Kristin (Kenneth), Kathleen, Karen, Jordyn, Miquela, Ashlyn, Jackson, Greyson, Katherine, Declan and Ryan. A master cook, a pitch perfect singer and a devout reader of the Bible, Angelina shared these lifelong passions with family and friends, including the staff at Friendship Gardens where she spent her final chapter sharing her story and spunky spirit. Please join us in Celebrating her Life on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, with a Rosary at 8:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Private burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
