Angel Barrios

Angel Eduardo Barrios Montilla passed away on Thursday, September 5th, 2024. He was 68 years old. Angel was born on December 25, 1955 in Caracas, Venezuela. He was born into a loving family of four siblings, his parents, and many close relatives. He became an avid surfer at an early age and enjoyed spending time catching the waves. His special place to soak up some sun was Margarita Island. In his twenties, he moved to the United States to continue his education. He chose San Francisco, California to pursue his studies but also to ride the Pacific waves. Angel obtained his Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from San Francisco State University. He worked for the California Department of Fish and Game where he would go on expeditions with local fishermen to identify new fish species and report findings. Angel made a career transition and joined the US Postal Service which brought him to New Mexico in 1992. Angel held various positions and worked at many postal stations throughout Albuquerque. The one he liked the most was working directly with the public as a window clerk. Angel had the heart to lighten the day of others. He was curious and in tune with his customers. As busy as the work could be he was always patient and kind. He retired in 2021 after 33 years of service.  

Angel valued family dearly. He made sure to maintain strong ties and be there for family. He was a man of deep faith and he prayed daily for his family in Albuquerque, his family in Venezuela, his family in Mexico, and his family in France. Angel was adventurous and a free spirit. He wanted to get to know every corner of New Mexico. He loved to visit the cultural sites, ruins, old churches, and lakes among other places. He made it a point to travel with his family regularly. Angel was a selfless man who enjoyed life immensely. His zest, his generosity, and his kindness will always be in our hearts.

Angel is survived by his daughter Lisa Barrios, his son Christian Barrios, and his partner Anna Barrios. In memory of Angel, the family asks that you spend time with your loved ones as this was very important to him.

A church service in honor of Angel will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 2:00 PM MT at Sagebrush Church, 6440 Coors Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. Family, friends, and those who knew Angel are welcomed. A sea food luncheon will be held following the service at his favorite place, Mariscos La Playa, at 5210 San Mateo Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87109.
