Andrew Montgomery PhD

Husband and father, passed away with his family around him on Monday, December 31, 2012 in Albuquerque. Born in Santa Fe, he was the son of Andrew K. and Ruth (both deceased) and brother to Seth D. and Nicholas H. (both deceased). He attended the New Mexico Military Institute and briefly enrolled at the University of New Mexico and the University of Oregon. In 1963, he joined the Peace Corps and served his volunteer duty in La Plata, Huila, Colombia where he met and married his wife, Rosa Emilia (nee Perez). Married for 47 years, they raised their four children: Ruth (Robert Dreyer), Andrea (Michael King), Susan (Joseph Collins), and Luis (Sarah Hunter) in Chicago, Illinois before retiring to Albuquerque in 1999. Andrew earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois - Chicago where he also worked as a professor and researcher in quantitative sociology. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the College of Nursing at the University. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Andrew is survived by his wife, children, and 14 grandchildren to whom he was lovingly known as "Yoyo." A Memorial Service will be held at St. Chad's Episcopal Church, 7171 Tennyson Street, NE, Albuquerque, NM, on Friday January 4, 2013 at 2:00pm with Visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the charity of their choice in Andrew's honor.
