Andres Chavez

On a walk home from school one recent afternoon, Andres Chavez and his little brother came across an injured bird. It had fallen from a tree. Its feathers were frayed and it couldn't fly. Andres decided he needed to help the fragile bird. He delicately picked it up and took it home. Over the next several days, he and his brother nursed the small animal. Eventually, it flew away. This act is only a glimpse of Andres. At sixteen, he was complicated, intelligent, intricate, whimsical and gentle.
On Thursday, February 4th, 2016 he left us.
He left behind a few unfinished novels, several short stories, a coded written language, a number of beautiful poems and other writings. This is a portion of one of his writings:
"We look to understand and empathize with one another and yet we are distrustful of each other's "truths" and we tend to find offense in words that meant none. We strive to be trusting of one another but our suspicions and our very own lies prevent such a thing. We long to be accepted when we cannot accept ourselves or each other. We try to become stronger, but we only weaken ourselves with drugs and machines" - Andres Chavez
His immediate family will likely spend their lives remembering his personal work, his love of nature, video games, robots and graphic novels.
His parents, Ramon and Sara Chavez, will celebrate their son and all his gifts. His brother, Daniel (bro), will miss his best friend. His grandparents will miss his presence and laughter. His uncles and aunts will miss his joy. His cousins will miss their playtime together. His friends will remember a quiet and smart person who they weren't able to get to know better.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Westside.
