Our beloved father of 98 years of age, Andrés B. Viera, born in Antigua, Guatemala went home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2016 in Albuquerque, NM.
He was a long time resident of Albuquerque, having lived previously in Roswell, Farmington and Bakersfield, CA. His passion was for people, preaching the gospel, and serving God through the ministry. He was a pastor of Spanish speaking Baptist churches in New Mexico for over 68 years. He also served as a Sunday school teacher, and was Pastor Emeritus of First Spanish Baptist Church of Albuquerque.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Raquel Armendariz Viera; his parents, Maria Viera and Antonio Basterrechea; sisters, Maria Cornejo and é�ngela Martinez. He and Raquel Armendariz were married in 1945 in El Paso, TX.
He is survived by a sister, Clarita Jordan of Albany, OR; nephews, Mario Viera of Albuquerque, and Ricardo Azurdia; and niece, Ester Vaida and husband, Michael of Davis, CA. He is also survived by his children, Paul A. Viera and wife, Eloise of Portland, TN, Rodolfo E. Viera, of Aurora, CO, Andrew Viera and wife, Tina, of Albuquerque, George H. Viera and wife, Robyn, of Cedar Grove, NM, Alice Montoya and husband, Eliseo of Albuquerque, and Ruben A. Viera of Albuquerque. He has nine grandchildren, Joseph Viera, Jeremy Viera, Jennifer Viera, Audrey Viera, Christopher Viera, Jason Viera, Nathan Viera, Daniel Montoya, and Joshua Montoya. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at FRENCH - University from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at First Bilingual Baptist Church, 812 Fruit Ave. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
