Amelia Pardo Barron, “Melis”, born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, rested in the peace of our Lord Jesus on Friday, the 11th of November 2022, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was 67 years old. Amelia is preceded in death by her father, Tranquilino Pardo; her mother, Amelia Pardo Barrón; her eldest brother, Fernando Pardo, her youngest brother, Jaime Pardo; and her dear friend, Josephine Randles.
She is survived by four siblings, sister, María Esther Pardo, brother, Servando Pardo and wife Dorothy, sister, Georgina Neely and husband Scott, and brother, Elias Pardo and wife Monica. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who were deeply beloved to her.
Amelia moved to Albuquerque with her family in 1966, where she eventually attended Highland High School. She was a very sensitive and hard-working person. As a teenager, she and her brother Servando worked hard to help their parents support the family, which included seven siblings.
After high school, she diligently worked at a hospital as a kitchen dietitian. She worked full-time, returning home in the afternoon to help with housework and often prepared dinner for the family. She was organized, keeping the budget and list of groceries for the house.
Amelia was fun-loving, loyal, and compassionate, always having many friends, helping the poor, and finding ways to give to others in need. She remembered family birthdays and sent cards or organized their parties. It was her joy to be surrounded by her loved ones, and she filled her home with photos and memorabilia of her family and friends.
In later years, she worked for the University of New Mexico Hospitals Mental Health Center as a Registration and Eligibility Specialist where she took pride in assisting Spanish-speaking patients and their families. She retired in July 2022.
Her laughter, stories, hugs, and birthday phone calls will be deeply missed, while the memories of her generous and loving nature will be closely cherished.
