Alyce Trujillo

September 6, 1923 — February 11, 2013

Age 89, a ten-year resident of Albuquerque and long-time resident of Taos, went to peaceful glory with our LORD Jesus Christ on Monday night, February 11, 2013. Survivors include two sons and one daughter, Ray and Joniva Mondragon of Albuquerque and Louis, wife Junko, and daughter Emi Mondragon of Placitas; two brothers, J.B. Martinez and wife Lucie of Taos and Herbert Martinez and wife Edith of South Gate, CA. Mrs. Trujillo was preceded in death by three spouses, Trinidad Mondragon, Robert Gowing, and Felix Trujillo; two brothers, Edwin S. and William E. Martinez; three sisters, Kathrine, Dolores L. and Maria S. Martinez. Alyce was a devoted and active member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Auxiliary since 1988. She served as Taos Department President Post 3259 (2000-2001), State Auxiliary President (2000-2001), Auxiliary President for 16 years (1989-2005), and Life Member (2005-2013). She actively served both Taos Post 3259 (1988-2007) and Albuquerque Post 401 (2007-2012). Until her move to Albuquerque in 2003, Alyce actively served in volunteer and leadership capacities for the Taos Community. She and husband Felix launched the first Taos Feeds Taos Food Drive, an annual event supporting the needy in Taos, which they managed for several years and continues to the present. She also served as a voter precinct assistant, senior center volunteer, member and officer of the Taos Opera Guild, and volunteer for Taos Holy Cross Hospital. During her nine years of Albuquerque residency, she faithfully attended church services and Bible classes at Community Bible Church in Los Lunas and Grace Church in Albuquerque. Services and reception will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., at Grace Church, 6901 San Antonio NE in Albuquerque, 87109. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. If desired, friends and family members may make memorial contributions to their local VFW Auxiliary, to Taos Post 3259, Albuquerque Post 401 or in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Church.
